Good News Week

Good News Week started as a game show style programme based on news and current
affairs that began on the ABC in 1996. Many other sites, and other fans for that matter,
describe the show better than I could, so I'll leave that up to them. The point of this
section is to provide some record, in the form of summaries and lists, of what shows
were produced and what happened during each. Briefly, from 1996 Good News Week aired on
the ABC as a half hour show on Friday nights at 8pm. In 1998 an hour-length show,
Good News Weekend, was added. Broadcast on Saturday evenings, it took the timeslot
of Roy & HG's channel nine show for ten weeks during a break. It was a more
entertainment orientated programme, where the games related more to music and
entertainment than news. In 1999, Good News Week made the move to network ten,
airing this time for an hour (including commercials), on Sunday evenings at 7.30pm. During
August, due to heavy competition with the ABC's SeaChange and network nine's
Sixty Minutes, gnw's timeslot was moved to Monday nights at 9:30pm. The
equivalent of Good News Weekend began in May, and was initially called
Good News Weeknight Lite, but quickly became known as gnw Night Lite
or simply Night Lite. This show officially aired for 90 minutes (although without
fail, it went over time) on Thursday nights at 8.30pm. Good News Week in 2000 was also a 90
minute show, aired on Saturday nights at 9:30pm. The format was based on the original Good
News Week games (although some new games were introduced), with music numbers and
appearances by Flacco and The Sandman like Night Lite/Weekend. Good News Week came to an
end in November 2000 with Good News Week's Closing Ceremony at the Capitol Theatre.
2001 (and late 2000) brought a number of Good News Week Specials and debates, etc.
Episode Lists and Run-Downs
The episode lists provide an at-a-glance summary of the shows made in a year. It lists
the air date, episode number, and recording date. They also act as an index to the
run-downs, which are linked from the broadcast date in the lists. The run-downs are a
complete capsule (where finished) on each episode, giving
more detail about a show. Some features of the run-downs are: The air date is in bold,
the other date is the recording date; the episode number is also shown near the top; A
list of the guests is included for each team, the numbers in brackets in the team lists
are the final scores for the show; the run-down section lists each game, performance or
other segment in the show. Horizontal rules separate the segments at commercial breaks
(note the first horizintal rule indicates the show opener where a separate opener is not
listed); and the credits for the musical performances are given. Note that Night Lite
and the other specials are treated separately from the regular Good News Week.
